Honors College
The Honors College is one of the most established honors colleges in the nation, and was founded on the principles set out by Matilda and Alfred Wilson when they donated their entire Meadow Brook estate to establish Oakland University-- that aspirational and talented students benefit from the personal and individual interest of high-quality university faculty and staff. We provide such an environment for students, assisting them to excel in all their endeavors.
We strive to develop students into cultural, civic, and industry leaders with all of the tools necessary to make a positive impact on the world and a commitment to enrich their communities. The college boasts hundreds of OU’s best and brightest students pursuing majors in every other academic unit across the University. Our students are actively engaged in volunteer and outreach activities, pursue prestigious accolades and scholarships, and complete study abroad experiences far away from OU. Now, as part of the Aspire. Advance. Achieve. Campaign for Oakland University, we seek to capitalize and expand on successes in these key areas:
- Scholarships
- Establish OU Office of Prestigious Scholarships
- Establish "Honors for Humanity" Program
- Create "The Oakland Leadership Institute"
- Endowed Professorship and Advisor
- Create Advanced Learning Center
- Support Michigan Center for Undergraduate Research and Center for Undergraduate Research Leadership
- Launch "Honors Summer School"
